The Japanese language is rich in onomatopoetics (jap. gitaigo).

Hoshino presented in Leipzig and Chemnitz the gitaigo of for example salarymen, housewifes und Students in Tokyo in some hand binded books in Japanese and German with short and funny texts and own xylographies.

She is also working on a Leipzig dictionary with many daily observations of her last years living in Leipzig.

In the Ohayô Japan Festival sie will show her new work: Small Guide of Japanese Cuisine.



Hoshino Keiko was born in 1985 in Fukuoka, Japan. In 2006 she fi nished her BA in Graphic Design (Tama Art University, Tôkyô).

With a scholarship from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) she came to Leipzig in 2006 and started her studies of Book art / Graphic Design (Typographie) at Hochschule für Grafi k und Buchkunst (HGB), Leipzig.

From October on she will receive a scholarship from Ito Foundation for International Education Exchange.



This year Hoshino will together with Ushio Kuni design the print works of the festival, like the poster stamp, the postcard and the festival book.
